Dear Quilters, Well, another year has passed and we are into more new beginnings. I k now a lot of you were trying to finish up some UFO projects before starting anything new, but the quilt shop is full of new and fun stuff. We will be having a Beginners class starting in February and a new fun Table runner of the month. Just think a new table runner each month, maybe a new technique for you and a chance to use some of those smaller pieces in your stash. Carol Wilson will be teaching the table runner classes and some of the patterns are her own designs. There will be samples in the store after February 8th. Stop by for a look. We are also thinking of a Bag of the month for fall. Stash Therapy will continue as well, check further into the email for details. Molly’s Club is still going strong and is always open for new members; details are also further into the news letter. There are lots of exciting things available, and lots more to come. Come in and be inspired. Miss Molly SCRAP THERAPY GET ORGANIZED * HAVE FUN * MAKE QUILTS Did you make a New Year’s resolution that said “I cannot buy any more fabric until I use up what I have!” Or have you told yourself that “If I don’t do something soon, the scraps are going to take over.” Scrap Therapy is a lively, innovative program that can help you turn your tangled fabric piles into ready to use pieces and then into beautiful quilts. There are exclusive patterns, so it is easy to use up those scraps instead of making more. All you need to do is cut your “leftovers” into 5”, 3 ½” and 2” squares. By precutting you will be able to start sewing when you come for the session. Join us on February 27, 2009 at 10am to get started. Fee will be $10.00 plus price of pattern. Scrap Therapy will also be on: March 27th, 09 April 24th, 09 May 22nd, 09 June 19th, 09 Further dates will be confirmed at the last class or the next newsletter. MOLLY’S CLUB AN EVENING OUT * SEE WHAT’S NEW * SEE WHAT’S COMING IN Feb 24th, Mar 31nd, Apr 28th, May26th
Molly’s Club meets on the last Tuesday of the month at 7pm. There is no sewing done but we share tips and tricks and have “sew and tell”. The cost for Molly’s Club is $5.00 per month, payable 6 months at a time. This fee gives you most fabric at $13.99 per meter, as well as 20% off 1 pattern and 1 book per month. In the past we have done round robins, but you never know what the group will come up with. In order to qualify for the discounts you should try to attend as many Tuesday nights as you can. (If there is enough interest we might be able to have a daytime one as well. CLASSES BEGINNERS QUILTING Feb 14, 21, 28 and Mar 7 and 14
This is a 5 week series where we cover the basics of quilting. It is also very good for anyone that might need a refresher class. We will learn cutting, piecing, adding borders and finally quilting your project. You will be making a table centre piece or a baby quilt depending on the fabrics you pick. This project can be finished in the 5 classes. Teacher: Lorna Penner Fee: $75.00 plus fabric and supplies 10am – 3PM TABLE RUNNER OF THE MONTH (February) Feb 20th, 2009 “AN INVITATION FOR TEA” Carol Wilson has designed a table runner pattern that will showcase your prettiest fabrics. This pattern can also be made into placemats. You have a choice when you pick your fabric. The sample and supply list are available in the store when you sign up. There is a $5.00 fee for the pattern, payable to Carol at the class. As always Carol will bring more of her tips and tricks to make quilting a positive experience. Everyone is welcome as this class is suited for beginners and beyond. Teacher: Carol Wilson Fee: $ 20.00 plus fabric and supplies 10am – 3pm MOLLY’S CLUB 7 PM FEB 24TH, 2009 (See information elsewhere in this news letter) TABLE RUNNER OF THE MONTH (March) Mar 20th, 2009 “TABLERUNNER WITH A TWIST” This pattern is designed by Lisa Moore from Alaska. It is a different table runner pattern and gives you a chance to show off some of your pretty feature fabrics. The best way for me to describe it is “a version of Double wedding ring, without all the hard work”. Students will each be required to purchase a pattern from the store. Sample and supply list will be available in the store very soon. This class is suitable for a beginner and beyond. Teacher: Carol Wilson $ 20.00 plus fabric and supplies 10am – 3pm HAND APPLIQUE MAR 27TH, 2009 Learning the correct way to hand appliqué is important because it makes such a difference in your finished work. Carol will help you set up your “working area” on your fabric and proper placement of your pieces and the correct invisible stitches. I want to learn how she makes her sharp points so sharp. If you do too, Carol is the one to teach us. The technique of appliqué cannot be learned in just one class, so there will be a series of classes. The next dates will be determined at the first class. All levels are most welcome. No sewing machine required. Teacher: Carol Wilson 10am – 3pm Fee: $35.00 plus fabric and supplies (for first class) All following classes will have a $5.00 fee PAPER PIECING APRIL 4TH, 2009 Make a table runner by paper piecing the Judy Niemeyer way. When I took this class I could not believe it. Precutting your shapes and chain piecing is the order of the day. Judy’s patterns look very complicated and difficult, but once you take the class, none of them will seem like a challenge. Purchase of a kit is required. (3 color ways available). Sample and supply list will be in stores by March 7th. This class is for an intermediate or beyond quilter. If you are unsure if you can tackle this project, just ask and we can discuss it.
Teacher: Lorna Penner 9:30am – 4pm Fee: $10.00 plus $100.00 for kit If you received this newsletter by E-Mail, and would like a copy of the free pattern that is normally attached, just drop by the store and we would be happy to give you a copy and show you the sample. TABLERUNNER OF THE MONTH (April) APRIL 17th, 2009 Create your own table runner design Have you ever wanted to play with a quilt block and perhaps design you very own table runner? In this class Carol will get you started. You are welcome to use her design or create your own. Maybe you even have some blocks left over from another project, or you made them and did not know what to do with them. Either way it is intended to get you thinking. Confident beginner and beyond.
To learn more about the above classes, drop into the store and find out. Classes will only run if there enough interest. So take a class and support your neighborhood quilt shop.
